Wonderland Mittens – Stitch Upon a Time

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the mittens I made are delightful! We’ve had a fair amount of snowfall this year in New Hampshire, and I’ve managed to lose all my mittens and gloves since last year. With the biggest Nor’easter starting the very next day, I was so happy that the Wonderland Mittens were such a quick sew.

The Pattern

When I try new patterns, not only am I looking for a great end product and instructions, but also how quickly I can whip them up. The Wonderland Mittens took no time at all from cut to assembly (under an hour if you can believe it!).

This pattern comes with a total of 11 sizes. These can fit both toddlers up through to adults (men and women). Each size is it’s own layer within the file and is based on the measurement from the top of your middle finger down to the top of your wrist.

My size is 7

The Fabric

Another great thing about this pattern, it is a fabulous scrap buster. As I sew more, I am finding that it is hard to let go of scraps but I also have not had the opportunity to find many scrap busters that work with the pieces I have left.

I used a scrap piece of French Terry from Blended Thread Fabrics on the outside, and I had some fleece from Joanns to use for the inside making these mittens very warm! I chose to make the outside french terry for a few reasons.

  1. The french terry was lighter than the fleece, making the mitten’s weight overall lighter.
  2. I find fleece attracts ALL THE CAT HAIR which I really did not want.

Final Thoughts

These Wonderland Mittens were a perfect quick sew that used up my scraps, and have already been used several times since I live in New England and it’s already winter! I highly recommend making a pair, or 10 🙂 Especially if you’re like me and manage to lose the right mitten all the time…
