Wildflower Dress – Spring is in the Air!
Who else is ready for spring?! I know I sure am and the last few days have been above 40 degrees Fahrenheit which is so nice here in New England. SO nice that I just had to make myself a dress that screams spring! When a pattern called the Wildflower dress shows up, you know it is meant to be made for spring.
The Pattern
The Wildflower is not just a dress. The dress options available are two skirt styles (tiered and half circle) and each of these options has three lengths. The Non-Dress options include being able to make a bra, workout top, and even a bathing suit top using the crop option.
One of the most striking features of this pattern is the unique neckline which gives the look of a halter neckline. However, as soon as you turn around you will see that it is not a halter at all, making it more comfortable for your neck! There are options to make either straight straps in the back or straps that cross over.
I made a Size Medium knee length circle skirt dress with no shelf bra.
I also went with the crossover straps.
The Fabric
The whole Wildflower Dress I made was inspired by the skirt fabric. This stunning floral pointelle is named Riverdale from Amelia Lane Designs. This was my first time working with pointelle and it was a dream to work with. It’s flowy with a little bit of body making it a perfect options for dresses and tops alike. This fabric is around 190gsm giving it a great weight to not be too heavy, but I also don’t need to worry about pulling a Marilyn Monroe when out and about.
The bodice fabric is one of my mystery fabrics which I have had in my stash for some time. When the Riverdale arrived a few weeks ago it was a near perfect match and just had to be this dress!
The Pointelle is 100% Polyester and has a 2 way stretch which works well for a circle skirt.
Feedback and Final Thoughts
While overall this pattern was a very easy sew, because the straps and bodice are unique and new to me, I had a bit of a hard time getting things lined up properly. If I were to make this pattern again tomorrow, I would be using more basting stitches for the straps, and also NOT jumping ahead in the pattern causing me to need to use my seam ripper.
I basically sewed the lining and main bodice pieces together, without considering that I need to leave a hole open to place the straps. Lets just say I don’t want to have to spot remove serger stitches again in the near future! This also caused my straps to not be perfectly spaced (for my perfectionist side) but it’s still a very comfortable and wearable dress!
So I ended up having a few pieces of scrap fabric that were too large for me to just throw out. After some consideration, I realized this outfit would do well with a matching scrunchie! This is probably going to be one of my go to scrap busters because it was just so dang easy and fulfills my need of not throwing out all my fabric scraps!

At least right now, I am not a crop person but would definitely consider making another version of this dress in the future. Do you think I can pull off a long tiered skirt?!
