Simpatico Leggings – Back to Basics

I just about live in Leggings these days since I’ve been working from home full time. I still find time to make it to my local gym regularly though, which means I am also in workout leggings fairly often. Recently I’ve been finding that the number of leggings I own for working out is not nearly as high as it should be. Good news for me, is that the Simpatico Leggings are such a quick sew!

With only months to go, I have been very caught up in the wedding planning for our October wedding, meaning that my time for sewing was more limited than I would like. However, I’m so excited for the design of our wedding! What I will share in this post is that our primary colors are going to be Navy, Burgundy, Plum, and Copper. A BOLD wedding for sure!

The Simpatico Leggings gave me the opportunity to sew a complete garment within a very short amount of time, sparking my joy for sewing again and wanting to find more time to sew!

The Pattern

The Simpatico Leggings is a simple legging to sew with a very flattering fit. There is only one inseam and no side seam. This pattern is drafted with several options to customize the leggings to your preferred fit!

Inseam options: Petite (26″ Inseam) – Standard (29″ Inseam)  – Tall (31″ Inseam)

Waistband: High-rise or Mid-Rise

Length: Full length or Capri length

Because there is only one seam on the legs, this makes for an amazingly quick sew. I was able to cut, assemble, and sew this pattern within an afternoon (with many distractions). While I love all the athletic patterns from GSC, at the same time, I don’t always have enough time to dedicate to making the more complex patterns. I fully intend on making them all in multiple fabrics, but this pattern gives me that “Quick Win” which is much needed!

For my leggings, I made the Standard full length - High-Rise - Size F

The Fabric

Funny enough, I actually purchased this fabric only a week prior to the Simpatico test call. But as soon as I was selected to test this pattern I knew this fabric was destined to be a pair!

This beautiful Turquoise – Ombre Spandex from Amelia Lane Designs is just stunning. It has a slight shine to it that really comes to life in the sunlight. And it’s a very subtle but pretty Ombre between blues.

This fabric is 80% nylon, 20% spandex and is 200 GSM. The wrong side of the fabric is much softer on the legs making these super comfortable to wear.

Feedback and Final Thoughts

Because this pattern is so “Basic” I decided to try a few techniques that have been on my list of “I’d rather not do” for too long. This pattern comes with an optional Gusset (triangle shaped) which has terrified me for too long! The steps provided in the instructions were very straight forward and provided me with the guidance needed to successfully install the gusset (seen below).

I also have known that adding in some clear elastic to the waistband is a HUGE improvement to the band not rolling down. However, I just could not for the life of me add it in without becoming super frustrated or needing to add in the extra step of adding the elastic after serging. With my latest investment, I can now surge AND add the elastic in one easy step.

Well this serger foot is a Game Changer! All my leggings will have elastic now!!! #sewing #wow #imakemyclothes #imakeathleticwear #serger

I also had enough fabric to make a matching Elevate Crop Top which is just as stunning. Will get into a longer post on that later 😉

Get the Look!

I’m going to be making several more of these leggings in the very near future and will try to add some additional photos of them soon!

What do you think of the Simpatico leggings? Would you make more Athletic or lounge leggings with this pattern?
