The Lilac Needle
ABC Pattern Stash Challenge,  Sewing,  Things I've Made

Ollie Bomber Jacket

So much has been happening lately! We’re about 11 weeks out from the wedding and with all that planning I still am trying to find time to sew. If I am not sewing, I am making wedding party favor or working on our seating chare and music playlist these days. The ABC Pattern Stash Challenge has been a real motivator to try and remain consistent in my sewing though, and now I am up to letter O! The Ollie Bomber Jacket is actually one of the more complex things I’ve had to make to date, and I’m happy to share it with you today!

The Pattern

Options

The Ollie Bomber doesn’t actually have a ton of options but it really doesn’t need them. Main areas to point out that are optional are:
Pockets: The main pattern includes optional Welt pockets, but there is a kangaroo pocket add on that can be purchased as well.
Collar or Hood (add on)
Optional Lining

Sizing

This pattern suggests choosing your size based on bust measurement which I did. This put me in a size 12/14 for the jacket and it was true to size.

The size range for this pattern is 0/2 – 28 with a bust measurement difference of 32″ for the smallest up to 50″ for the largest size.

I made size 12/14 with the welt pockets and optional hood add on. Fully Lined.

The Fabric

The fabric I chose for my Ollie Bomber is from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. They just (as of this post) released a bunch of fall club line prints that I fell in love with. I specifically chose this fabric, called Teal Coneflower, with the expectation that it would become my new favorite jacket. The fabric base I went with was Jersey, giving a sturdy but still lightweight feel for the final piece.
I was able to find a teal Jersey coordinate fabric through RCF as well which was perfect for the lining.

Main Fabric: 94/5 4-way stretch cotton spandex jersey, 10 oz.

Feedback and Final Thoughts

Likes and Dislikes

I love how this fits. I didn’t need to make any adjustments and I found the fit of this piece to be true to size selection.

The instructions we very well written. The only part I had to jump a bit for was when it came to adding the hood, however I understand why that is as it was an add on option and not part of the original pattern. The instructions specifically for adding in the zipper were what I mainly needed, and it was well done enough that I didn’t need to make a muslin (which is great because I didn’t order enough of the fabric to make another if I messed up!)

Any Modifications?

No modifications needed for this pattern. I also can’t think of anything I would want to do differently.

Would I make this again?

Absolutely! I definitely want to make this pattern again and honestly do the exact same options that I did for this one. It’s my perfect transition season jacket that is not too heavy or light and just looks… bomber. (see what I did there?)
