Make It Yours – The Label: Cropped Hoodie

I was looking at my fabric collection last week and realized I had a lot of really amazing fabric that has just been sitting there for months…waiting. Even though at the time I didn’t know what I wanted to make, I decided on which fabric I wanted to use, a beautiful Blush geo french terry from Blended Thread Fabrics. This was a fabric I have had for some time just waiting for the perfect pattern to use this with. I finally decided it was time to actually use the fabric, but I realized I did not have enough to make a typical hoodie (at least not in the image I had thought of to use). At that point, I started searching in the Blended Thread Fabrics group to see what others had made with this fabric to hopefully get some ideas as to what to make with around a half yard.

The idea of a cropped hoodie popped up in the group feed as someone who was showing some mock-ups of a completely different fabric, but I loved the idea, and thought it would work for the small amount of fabric I had! That’s when I discovered the Cropped Hoodie pattern from Make it Yours – The Label. Even though I knew this pattern would work beautifully with the fabric, I wanted to plan out what I was going to do. This is where Mock-Ups come into play. Creating the below image helped me to decide what pieces I needed to cut from which fabric, and really plan things out before cutting.

The entire hoodie is made with French Terry fabric, including the grey/blue coordinate fabric making it super comfortable. It is also very easy (and quick) to sew together. I am THRILLED with how the final garment turned out. I also was able to get in some practice with my new Nikon D5600 using a tripod and the results are much better than I expected!

A few notes on the pattern:
– The fit of the cropped hoodie is actually more “fitted” which I discovered when making my muslin. While it fit well, I was going for a more relaxed less fitted look. I measured as a size 36, but ended up making a size 40 to give that extra room look I was going for.
– Next time: I may try the non-lined hoodie to reduce some bulk as well as a hemmed bottom instead of a band to look even more relaxed.

Make it Yours – The Label is a German based company that offers their patterns in multiple languages! If you are buying the pattern through Etsy, make sure the pattern selected is in the correct language.
