Iris Shorts
What a busy week! But I did manage to keep on track with my #ABCPatternStashChallenge. While I was not able to make two items this week, I was able to make my first pair of Iris shorts! And how fitting with the weather turning more into summer each day!
The Pattern
The Iris shorts from Sonia Estep Designs are just amazing. I have thicker thighs, and usually have a hard time buying shorts that A. Fit me and B. are actually comfortable if I plan on walking any amount of distance.
This pattern comes with three different inseam lengths, including my favorite 5″ inseam! There also is a low and high rise band option as well as optional back and front pockets.
This pattern is meant to be a more relaxed fit, however it can also be a bit more snug like mine.
I made size 8 graded to 10 in the hips/thighs, 5" inseam, front pockets with the high rise band.
The Fabric
So this fabric is a little bit of a mystery. Only because I know I bought it on etsy, but I cannot seem to find the order information anywhere! I know it is scuba, I know it is lilac, but where that order info is I do not know!
Good news is it was wonderful to work with!
Feedback and Final Thoughts
When I first made these shorts I actually made a size 8 which is my go to size for SED. Trying them on they are comfortable, however, again my thick thighs strike! They were not overly tight, however, they were a bit more snug then I would prefer for a relaxed short. Don’t get me wrong, I plan on wearing this pair all summer as well. But I am so happy I went up in size for my thighs. I have a very strong feeling that if I use a different fabric than the lilac scuba, the fit will be a bit different as well so I will stick to my current graded size for my next pair!
