Hannah Add on Hood – Sonia Estep Designs

Wow! It’s been a little while hasn’t it? This past month has been a little bit hectic and my sewing has not been as frequent as I like… but I did a thing. I moved offices! I’ll have a post in the near future showing the new space. But for now… lets talk about the new Hannah Hood add on!

The Hannah - Hood Option

So you might notice that I am specifying the new hood option for the Hannah. While I did make the Hannah as well, I wanted to take the opportunity to use this post to focus on the hood portion of this piece. I will write a more detailed post on the other options the Hannah has soon with all the options available.

The Pattern

The Hannah Hood – Add On options include a crossover hood and standard hood, both have optional drawstrings. When testing this pattern, I went with the crossover hood option as I just love that they are slightly different from most hoodies you can get RTW (ready to wear). I found this hood to be very easy to add to the Hannah, especially if you baste the cross over.

The pattern also has a band for the hood which allowed me to add this pop of blue to a solid grey hood. While not necessary, I found this to be a very nice touch. It also helped since I actually ran out of fabric!

The Fabric

As with most of my hoodies these days, I chose a heavier french terry that I had from Blended Thread Fabrics. I loved this blue glitter pattern but really wished I had another half yard to make a full hood, but alas, I did not have enough. Fortunately, I had this scrap sweater knit which happened to match to the glitter portion of the fabric.

Challenges/Thoughts

As I have mentioned a few times, I ran out of fabric. I thought I had enough but after I cut out the bodice of the Hannah, I was left with some very small usable pieces.

With the way the pattern is drafted, I was able to cut out several pieces to sew together for the edge of the hood, while using a different fabric all together for the main pieces of the hood. What I ended up doing was cutting 4 pieces the width of the hood edge as long as I could (adding in the required seam allowance as needed). Thankfully all the pieces were from the same side of the fabric so it does not look like it is made up of 4 pieces.

Get the look!
