Gaia Keyhole Tank Top
Letter G is here and it is a stunner! I was drawn to this pattern as soon as I saw it because of the back. The Gaia Keyhole tank from Sinclair patterns gives such a unique look how can you not love it at first sight?!
The Pattern
The main feature of the Gaia Tank is the keyhole accent back. This top is fitted at the bust and hips with some give in the waist for a very comfortable fit that will stay in place.
Options for this pattern include:
Neckline: Scoop or Crew
Back: With or without a slit that can be tied or left free.
Hem: Curved or banded.
What is great about this top is that it can be made as a sports or a casual top. A very interesting piece of garment to make and wear!
When I first saw this pattern I was very intimidated by how the back was laid out. While I loved it, I also was not sure if I would be able to tackle something like this when I first bought it. Almost like a pipe dream. with this challenge though, I decided that I would take the time to figure it out! I read over the instructions carefully and shockingly they really weren’t bad at all! The part that tripped me up the most was attaching the two crossover band to the seam of the shoulders but that was more user error than anything.
I made the curved hem option with a deep scoop neckband. Size 8.
The Fabric
When I saw this top, I knew I wanted it to be made of an athletic knit. Specifically Athletic brushed poly… again! This stuff is just amazing to work with and really goes with a lot of projects. I will be mainly wearing this top to the gym, but can easily wear this out and about as well and love it just as much. This particular ABP is a gorgeous teal from Amelia Lane designs that I am so happy to have some extra fabric of. I will probably make myself a matching headband or scrunchie at some point, but I do have more of the alphabet to tackle first!

Feedback and Final Thoughts
As I mentioned earlier, the most challenging part for me was attaching the crossover pieces to the shoulder seam. The instructions are laid out very well, but my settings on the serger seam made it a challenge to fold over the shoulder seam on top of the crossover pieces. While not required it would give a cleaner look. But not to worry, you can’t even tell anything is wrong if you are unable to do this step (like me!). I just attached as close as I could and did a few reinforcement stitches with matching thread.
Next time I will try making the tie back option to allow a bit more room but overall I love this top. I am so happy I finally got a chance to make the Gaia and the beautiful keyhole back!
