This is One of my Favorite Tees

We are making headway with the #ABCPatternStashChallenge! This week it is the letter F which for my challenge is the Favorite Tee from Patterns for Pirates. I must say after making this shirt, the name really suites the pattern. I can definitely see this as being one of my favorite T-shirt patterns in the future with how flattering and comfortable it is!

The Pattern

The Favorite Tee from Patterns for Pirates has many options to choose from which means you really can make this pattern your Favorite Tee. Options for this pattern include:

Length: Shirt, Tunic, Dress

Hem: Side Vent, Banded, Curved, and Knot Hem

Sleeve: Short, 3/4, Long

Neckline: Scoop and V-Neck

I did two different things this time around that were out of my comfort zone. I did the side vent hem and the V-Neck to give myself a bit of a challenge and it sure payed off.

The instructions for the V-neck especially were very well done and I had absolutely no issues when attempting this neckline. Normally I choose the scoop neck because it is “easier” but I am happy to have tackled the V-Neck!

The Fabric

With this being a more staple pattern, I really wanted to pick a solid color for my Tee. It just so happens that I ordered a bunch of Rayon Spandex Jersey from Surge Fabric Shop. I ordered several different colors, but for this project I settled on the color called Mineral and boy is it gorgeous! This fabric is great for shirts being a perfect weight (approx. 200gsm) and is very breathable which is amazing for spring and summer wear. This Rayon Spandex Jersey also has excellent recovery which is necessary for necklines staying crisp.

Fabric Content: 96%Rayon/4%Spandex
Fabric Weight: 200gsm
Fabric Stretch: 50% horizontal/ 50% vertical

Feedback and Final Thoughts

Something I found interesting and annoying with working with Rayon Spandex Jersey is when you go to iron it. Now this is not the only fabric this can happen to, but at least with the color I chose for this pattern, it was certainly more obvious for a time. I’m referring to after ironing getting a “Iron Sheen” in some areas that I kept the iron on a bit too long. Specifically the V area of my V neck is where I saw the shine the most. See below for a Before/After which was just with a day or two between the pictures.

NOW! with that said, with time the shine naturally dissipated but it is something I wanted to point out can happen with some fabrics, At this point it is very minimal and will only stand out to my eyes really. Good news is after the shine  mostly disappeared my neckband was still  perfectly flat! I still very much adore this fabric and will absolutely use it in the future, but will make sure I don’t heavily iron areas if I plan to wear it in the near future from when I make it.

In terms of the pattern, I have no qualms with it at all. It was a very easy sew and I really enjoyed working with a hem I normally don’t use. The side vent gives the shirt a unique look and gives me something different than my usual band or straight hem!

I also got over my fear of V-necks. This challenge really is making me face a lot of fears and I just love V-Necks. I messed up a few when I first tried them a few years ago, but with how well this shirt turned out I plan on doing more V-necks for sure.

Get the Look!

Sometimes you need to focus on getting staples in your wardrobe that can be warn any and all times. I’m so happy with the pattern for letter F of this challenge and definitely plan on making more in both the options I made as well as a few others.
