About Me

Sewing Journey so Far

I started sewing about 4 years ago when I was finishing up with my college degree and was looking for an outlet during my little to no down time. At first I started getting into crochet, which was and still is fun, but it always took forever for me to make a project and it was hard to start and stop due to the little free time that I did have. Enter in Sewing! I read somewhere that you could make a dress in less than a few hours, and that was all it took for me to buy a sewing machine, some cotton fabric (mistake #1) and a Big 4 pattern for a pretty dress. Needless to say it ended in failure and was over ambitious, but the spark for a creative outlet remained.

Over the next 3 years, I went in and out of sewing regularly as I never had a sewing “space” and my life situation changed several times. At the beginning, I lived with my parents in New Hampshire, but regularly commuted and stayed with my boyfriend at his parents house. If I wanted to sew, my “space” needed to be mobile. Let me tell you that was NOT easy, but I was determined to make this hobby stick. At the time I was not doing clothing as that first dress fail stuck with me, and I was focusing on bags and projects using cotton fabrics.

The real change for me happened in Early to Mid 2019 when I discovered the world of Knit fabric and so many sewing groups dedicated to garment sewing. Even though I still didn’t really have space for it, I decided to buy a few mystery knit boxes from some of these groups that I found and a few PDF patterns and the rest is history.

Now that we have our own home, and I have a dedicated sewing space, my desire to improve and make things has grown. I hope to share my experiences with you and continue to improve and have fun along the way 🙂

Non-Sewing Related

I was born and raised in Maine, but moved to New Hampshire after transferring colleges a few times. I have a Bachelors in General studies with a concentration in Business Information Systems. For my full time job I am a Team Lead for an Escalation Support team that works within the Hospitality industry. Luckily for me, I have a lot more time now out of school to pursue some hobbies!

While I have always been a fairly active person, 2020 is also the year that I have been seriously starting to focus on my health and fitness. Sadly this means I need to wakeup early and workout at my local gym at 5:45am. As a non-morning person, this was the hardest thing to get used to but I am so glad that I did it! This also happens to tie into my sewing hobby as I am going to be learning how to make my own workout gear.

I also have 3 fur babies, Link, Ganon, and Kirby who provide endless entertainment and headaches and, if you can’t tell, I also enjoy some video games. My favorite shows at the moment are Letter Kenny, Judge Judy and the new Witcher series to name a few. I am also a huge fan of podcasts with a mix of sewing related, health, and true crime podcasts.
